![]() Where to click on the channel strip for what purpose takes a bit of experimenting and this is covered in detail in the April 2014 workshop on patches and track stacks (). Instrument Channel Strip: One significant change is that the input field for the software instrument is near the top of the channel strip, no longer above the output field. The next couple of tips will help you with the channel strip and track header. You'll now see four adjustable values after the decimal point for the tempo in the LCD display.ĭecimal Tempo: Many Logic Pro 9-turned-X users are tripped up attempting to set a tempo that's not a whole number. Select 'Custom' in the LCD menu within the pop-up menu. The good news is you can hide this feature - or any Control Bar item - by Control-clicking in the Control Bar area and deselecting Quick Help in the View column.Ĭontrol-click in the Control Bar area to select 'Customize Control Bar and Display' or select the Display Mode buttons on the left of the LCD Display. ![]() Quick Help Button: When the button with the question mark icon is enabled, move your Pointer tool over an area for a description of the feature. The Pointer tool changes shape with a small arrow and horizontal line to allow swiping up or down. Alternatively, drag under the Tools area to reveal or hide the Tools. Toolbar Button: This button, to the right of the inspector button, opens and closes the view of tools beneath. The Quick Help Button disabled and hidden from Control Bar.Here are two tips for navigating new buttons in the Control Bar at the top of the Main Window. Within this window, the primary workspace for your audio and MIDI regions is now called the Tracks area, no longer the Arrange area. ![]() Incidentally, the 'Arrange Window', as it was known in Logic Pro 9, is now referred to by Apple as the 'Main Window'. No more accidentally opening another app! Given all the navigation is managed at the top of the screen, your eye should adjust fairly easily. For those of us who keep the Mac dock on the bottom, it's a relief to have the two finally out of each other's way. Transport: This has been moved up from the bottom of the screen where it has lived since the beginning of Logic time. You can also swipe down to show the graphic again. This is easily fixed by pulling up directly above the search field just under the 'Library' label to hide the graphic. The eye barely needs to move to shift focus between them.Īnother layout change to the Library, that may at first be disconcerting to the pro user, is the new instrument graphic above the search field. This is perhaps the most logical reorganisation in Logic Pro X, placing the Library (for shopping for sounds) conveniently next to the Inspector channel strip where you can modify the sound. Logic Pro 9 versus Logic Pro X.The Library: One of the most notable changes that should have reassured Logic users immediately that the redesign has the pro user's best interests in mind is the Library's move from the right to the left side of the Main Window. Let's start with the interface elements that have been moved. Hopefully Logic users will agree that it's easy when you know how. This month, however, is about a few changes in your line of sight during basic operation. Over the last 10 months, this column has covered several of the significant new features like Drummer, Patches, Track Stacks and Smart Controls. Others who have are still getting tripped up by the new interface and terminology. Many professional Logic 9 users haven't upgraded a year after the release of Logic Pro X. If you're having problems navigating in Logic Pro X, we can help you find your way again. The ever‑growing Sound Library is also a powerful source of inspiration, thanks to Patches that allow for rich layers of instruments and effects - and Smart Controls that let you easily shape any sound. However, despite this recommendation, all the applications in the Logic Studio bundle - including Logic Pro - are in fact Universal Binaries, meaning that they should be compatible with both Power PC and Intel‑based Macs. One unwelcome change in Logic 9 is that Apple now specify a Mac with an Intel processor as a minimum requirement.
